What have I learnt from updating a blog

As a paradox, while developing this blog I learned more things than I expected... I have always been quite an active blogger, and I thought I new mostly everything related to blogs: tags, labels, posts, visitors, RSS, meta-tags, cloud-words... However, what I did not know was the deep impact that a blog has on society. I knew a blog could be seen by anyone, and that you could show all you wanted to the rest of the world.

However, I did not know the struggles it can do on Internet. Social media, altogether with blogs are an incredible source for sharing your opinions, thoughts, emotions, sensations, knowledges, critics or information on anything.

Well, let's say in a few words, in order not to make our readers get bored, what I deeply understood thanks to the development of Artvertise:

1) I learned to use the tool Delicious, a tool which I had never used and heard.
2) I improved my knowledge of RSS
3) I managed to work in group.
4) I learned some HTML programming in order to attach some videos to the blog
5) I took advantadge of some websites such as Flickr which were not used but are very interesting.
6) I learned more about podcasts
7) I managed to explain what Web 2.0 is
8) I took notice of the social repercusion that a blog can have
9) I developed the ability to design templates and headers for this blog, as I was the coordinator
10) I improved my knowledge of English

Post 6# 10 things I´ve learnt with artvertise

Before start writting my last post for the Multimedia Communication Blog, Artvertise, It is second to none mention that I hadn´t got a idea of how to create a blog, how to post or how to make links, so probably there must be more than 10 thing in my list! This subject and paarticulary this blog have been an eye opener for me. Although I knew about the existence of blogs I haven´t never read one and neither write in one.

Here is the list of the 10 things I have learnt about blogs:

1.Hipertext: As I have said I didn´t have idea about how to link web sites, now I not only know how to do it but all the links there exists such as permanents, dinamics, structurals..and so on.

2.Interactivity: I didn´t know that there exists so many ways to interact with the net. There is huge range of posibilities to 'play', 'work'... and many fuctions with the net. You can elaborate timetables, know the weather...

3. Sharing videos: Until I had the class where we leant how to share videos I didn´t have an idea how to do it. But actually it´s very easy the only thing you have to do is to put it in Html edition and paste it in the blog. To show you my improvements I will post a video of one of my favourites songs:

4. About advertising and communication: Although I´m interested in all the world of advertising, I have never listened about things like viral marketing or th magic of words, but thanks to my classmates, now I can say that I know what all those things mean.

5. English: By doing all my post in english I have impruved my fluence and I have increased my vocabulary. Now I can share my ideas with people in all over the world thank to the english.

6. Screen captures: I didn´t know that the computer has a fuction that consist in 'taking photos' to the page in which you are and after you can edit it an post it, so that you enrich the final post.

7. Mapping: One thing that I have learnt and that I find is very useful is personalice your own maps and routes with google, after you can make an screen capture and paste it in a post, so that you can show diferent routes or interesting places.

8. Importance of the topic: When you are going to publish a post you must be sure that the content of the post has consistence and that it´s clear.

9. Responsability: When you´re in the net you have a reputation, a profile and you are the only responsible about the things you publish, you must be sure that the information is reliable and that you don´t disturb nobody with the things you post.

10. Searching: By writing posts you make into account that you might know few things about a subject, so that you must find information on the net, and you must also be sure that you find in the correct place.

The 10 things I've learnt with Artvertise

Artvertise has really helped me to improve my knowledge in the area of blogs and interactivity. Before starting to write my posts and to read the explanations of what we were asked to do in the class' blog "Multimedia Communication" I didn't have a deep technique in matters of the world of the Web or Internet, I knew the basic instructions to manage with some banal things.

Now I've learnt 10 more things, which are:

  1. Hypertexting: The way of linking one page to another one so there's a continuous "interchange" of information from more than one website in the same moment wasn't very clear for me before Artvertise, while now it is.
  2. Sharing videos: I didn't use to share anything on the Net before starting this blog and I had no idea of sharing videos when I was asked to do it but now I understand better the HTML format and I'm able to introduce videos without a problem. I'll demonstrate it by leaving here a video of one of my favorite songs right now ;)
  3. Mapping: I didn't even know that there was a possibility to change or personalize a map in Google Maps and design your own route in Google so that's surely another thing I've learnt during the practices.
  4. Information about the topics of Artvertise: I was interested in the world of Communication but thanks to the posts that my class-mates have published I've made wider my knowledge of Marketing and Advertising too, which is quite interesting.
  5. Blogroll: Related to the hypertexts too because of the need of an URL if you want to add any new website, blog, etc.
  6. Searching on the Net: I didn't care much about the finders so I always used to look for information in Google but, during the first practice, I realized the importance of searching on different finders because they offer a pretty different variety of contents in general such as videos, images, articles...
  7. The importance of the topic: If you don't like what your work is about, you're lost. I've noticed the need of choosing a topic or theme that really fits you because if not, you won't work in a comfortable way and it'll be hard for you to end your posts in time, in this case, and the consequences won't be good at all.
  8. The organization of a timetable: As we are University students, we have lots of works, presentations...so we have to organize our time in order to arrive at the time we are asked to. If we don't organize our schedule our results won't be good neither.
  9. English: Although we all had a previous and deep knowledge of this language, the fact of having to publish our posts in English has really improved my vocabulary and fluency, not just for writing but for speaking too.
  10. First contact with my profile on the Net: As I've said before, I've never had a serious blog or website to express myself in a wide way (not taking into account the social pages as Tuenti, Facebook or Twitter) so this has been a experience for me.

Post # 6 - 10 lessons out of "Artvertise"

It has been almost two months since we started the "artvertise" project and up to now we have achieve to create an amazing blog full of interesting posts related to the world of advertising. Along the journey we have had to face up with several difficulties as a group (new incorporations, a member on sick leave, lack of time...) However, we have manege to fulfill the whole task as well as introducing additional posts. Besides, we have gain many experience in the world of multimedia communication. The most relevant lessons learned had been:

  1. Team work
    • This has actually been my first time of participating in a serious team work. Even if there were sometimes that I disagreed with my partners opinions, in the end I knew that if everyone of us contribute with our personal ideas the project would become more complete
  2. Responsibility
    • I have always been responsible of my tasks because somehow they affected to me. Nevertheless, during the elaboration of the blog I found out that my work also influenced in the other members of the team and consequently I realized that being responsible was much more important so as to make the project possible
  3. Self-expression:
    • Most part of the blog consist in posting different articles. As a consequence, writing became a relevant fact. More important than grammatical or expelling mistakes has been elaborating my own expression in the posts. I had to find out my personal way of reflecting myself in the posts. Even if there is too much work to do I am sure this has been the first step.
  4. Using different links. Hypertext
    • While navigating in the Internet I learn what was a link, but I never asked myself how did it work. Nowadays I am aware of the different kind of links and their use. Thank to this understanding, I am capable of using them with coherence.
  5. Understanding the web 2.0. and its potential
    • The concept of "web 2.0" was unknown to me even if it has been on air since 2006. Thank to the practice and lectures in class I have learn that the user is the new king of the web. Besides, now I am conscious of web 2.0 potential and power over the world.
  6. The possibilities of interactivity
    • Thank to interactivity web 2.0 appeared. It is actually the major progress of Internet since its creation. Thanks to it, we can really consider Internet as a real communication in which at least two people establish a connection.
  7. The knowing of RSS
    • The abbreviation of Rich Site Summary. It is an XML format used to share and spread information in the web without the need of a navigator. It is commonly used in the sites in which information in continuously being actualized.
  8. Using HTML
    • The Internet language. Thanks to it videos can be posted in the blogs.
  9. New conception of advertising
    • Because of working in a blog which consist of advertising, I have learn so much about it. Advertisement is such a powerful tool and its objective makes it an art.
  10. Becoming a blogger
    • What else can I say, since I create my blog back in September I take part of the Internet. Being a blogger allows you to offer your knowledge with other people. In that way, I feel a little bit important; I have the opportunity to spread my messages all through the globe.

As time goes by, The world of Internet expands its horizons. Some years ago the information held in the web came totally from articles and images posted in the Internet. However, the new technologies and facilities that the online experience affords has revolutionized the way of gaining information by adding with video and audio. That is why Youtube has become such a useful tool. A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video?

When talking about podcasting we refer to the distribution of multimedia files by a re-diffusion system (RSS) that allows the user to download or instantly watch/listen to the information in a video or audio format. Commonly it is a person who updates his own videos of himself talking about an specific subject. Here we have some examples:

Sesión Cinéfila:
This one is related to the world of movies. In it we may find news and analysis of movies. In this case the author combines the videos with some descriptions.

This page is made up of a wide range of link which are connected to videos. Those links are listed so as to be clear the information you are looking for.

The videoblogs (or vlogs) are the evolution of blogs. In fact, they are galleries of video clips, ordered chronologically, which can be posted by several authors and, if the vlog allows it, by the users. Lets mention some examples of videoblogs related to my subject; advertising and movies:

Fast Forward:
This wonderful site is a youtube channel partnered with The Wharton School so as to "gather and provide quick perspective on managing the change in the marketing landscape".

It offers a wide range of videos on which marketing and advertising in the Internet is explained. It also shows some examples of it. So as to achieve its purpose, the author uploads several interviews with important professionals
